Victory Park to re-open at special ceremony in Minsk on Saturday

Victory Park along Lake Kamsamolskaye in Minsk is to re-open at a special ceremony following large-scale redevelopment work on Saturday as part of festivities marking the founding anniversary of the Belarusian capital city, BelaPAN reports.

The redevelopment project started in 2008.

Workers had to lower the water level in the water reservoir by 70 centimeters, clean up the reservoir where the water is low and along the quay, fortify the banks and clad them in granite.

The park now has two alleys, called Memory and Glory. Three fountains – the Victory and Eternity fountains, and a fountain in the water – are the central elements of the composition. The latter fountain seems to have the highest jets in Minsk. With a total of 16 jets, it shoots streams of sparks as high as 20 meters in the air. There is a pumping station and engineering structures to operate the fountain.

Seven landing places along the quay and a modern lifeboat station were built. A 60-meter-long bridge also appeared to allow visitors to get to the Bird Island.

Around 100 billion rubels ($33 million) in budgetary fund was spent under the project.
