Soviet revivalists urge Belarusians to vote Lukashenka
A Belarusian-registered organization called “For the Union and the Communist Party” has called on the citizens of Belarus to cast their ballots for Alyaksandr Lukashenka in the forthcoming presidential election, BelaPAN reports.
Mr. Lukashenka has preserved great achievements of socialism, such as free education and healthcare, wages a constant uncompromising battle against bureaucratic red tape, corruption and other crimes, ensures ethnic and religious concord and social stability, and keeps the wealth gap much narrower than in some other post-Soviet countries, the organization says in its appeal.
Only by voting for Mr. Lukashenka is it possible to foil any "cunning plans to derail Belarus from the path of independent creation, friendship and unification with its Soviet brothers in other republics," the appeal says.
The organization has also issued an appeal to the citizens of Russia and its "patriotic" parties and NGOs, calling for solidarity with the Belarusian government.
"Only the Russian public can, by telling the truth about Belarus, its incumbent president and his patriotic policy and by fighting off the deceitful anti-Belarusian media propaganda, foil another sinister anti-Belarusian plot of the global capitalist military and political elite – the leaders of the United States and the European Union – and the comprador-oligarchic government of Russia," the appeal says.
