UNDP to provide $81.5 million to Belarus under new country program
The Executive Board of the United Nations Population Fund and UN Development Program on September 2 approved the UNDP’s fourth country program for Belarus for the period between 2011 and 2015, BelaPAN reports.
Aid provided by the UNDP to the country will increase by 10 percent to $81.5 million compared with the previous country program, said the Belarusian foreign ministry’s press office.
The new program focuses on economic development and social security, the strengthening of the country’s investment potential, energy efficiency and environmental protection, efforts to tackle the aftermath of the Chernobyl nuclear accident and fight against HIV/AIDS.
“A significant amount of attention will be devoted to efficient state governance, human life safety, the development of areas, problems of small and medium-sized cities and the development of incentives for private enterprise,” the press office added.
