Kazakhstan may supply crude oil to Belarus, ambassador says

Kazakhstan may start supplying crude oil to Belarus if the two countries' economic entities reach an appropriate agreement on the matter, Kazakh Ambassador Anatoly Smirnov told reporters in Minsk on August 30, as quoted by BelaPAN.

"There are market relations in Kazakhstan," the diplomat said. "Today, of course, oil and other goods made in Kazakhstan may be supplied to Belarus, but the heads of enterprises must see each other and reach an agreement [to this end]. Should they agree, there will be [oil] deliveries."

Mr. Smirnov said that the establishment of the Customs Union of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia "will facilitate the settlement of these issues, while the creation of a common economic area will complete the process."
