Belarus should learn lessons from Ukraine’s past disputes with Russia, ambassador suggests

Belarus should learn lessons from past disputes between Ukraine and Russia, the Ukrainian ambassador to Belarus, Roman Bezsmertnyi, said at an online news conference held by BelaPAN`s online newspaper Belorusskiye Novosti (www.naviny.by) on August 25.

The ambassador was asked to comment on Belarus’ current relations with Moscow.

He mentioned bitter gas rows that occurred between his country and Russia a few years ago, suggesting the Belarus should learn "lessons."

“The answer to the question is known: the sooner all states that have been born from the womb of the Soviet Union switch to real trade and economic relations, the fewer discussions similar to those between the governments of Ukraine and the Russian Federation over gas prices will take place. The sooner the issue is fixed, the more profound and deeper bilateral cooperation will grow,” he said.
