PACE rapporteur arrives in Minsk
Sinikka Hurskainen, rapporteur on Belarus in the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) and chairperson of the PACE Sub-Committee on Belarus, arrived in Minsk on Monday morning, BelaPAN reports.
Ms. Hurskainen plans to hold meetings with a large number of Belarusian officials during her Minsk visit to last until August 23.
When meeting with Viktar Huminski, deputy head of the House of Representatives of the Belarusian National Assembly, shortly upon her arrival, the PACE rapporteur said that she wanted to meet with people and gather information about what is going on in the country. She said that three issues – human rights, democracy and the rule of law – were of interest to her.
Ms. Hurskainen said that she, in particular, intended to look at what had been done in Belarus following her previous visit to the Belarusian capital city this past February.
