Belarus in talks with South Korean companies about sale of cast iron technology

Belarus is in talks with South Korean companies about the sale of a novel technology of making high-strength cast iron machinery components, Yawhen Marukovich, director of the Metals Technology Institute at the Belarusian National Academy of Sciences, told reporters in Minsk on August 20, as quoted by BelaPAN.

He explained that the technique involved "stimulating the metal's inner reserves" for making cast iron components stronger.

The new technology does not involve adding other materials to cast iron parts, which cuts production times from hours to just a few seconds, Dr. Marukovich said.

The scientist noted that the technology, which he said is the result of almost 50 years of research, was used by more than 70 Belarusian enterprises.

"The quality of the cast iron has proved to be so high that much cheaper cast iron materials can now be used instead of steel and bronze materials," he said.
