Authorities to examine online stores' compliance with regulations

The trade ministry will examine online stores' compliance with regulations, Volha Krawtsova, a deputy departmental head at the ministry, told reporters in Minsk on August 10, as quoted by BelaPAN.

She said that online stores "are not complying with laws in full." In particular, the ministry will check whether Internet stores have been registered with authorities as required by regulations, according to the official.

In addition, ministry officials will study whether online stores observe regulations governing the protection of consumers' rights by providing online information about their address and license.

Internet stores may be fined between five and 10 times the Base Rate for failure to comply with the regulations.
"The stance of bodies protecting consumer rights is as follows: the punishment should be tightened due to the liberalization policy that is underway at present, which provides for the abolition of licensing, certification, etc.," Ms. Krawtsova said.
