$15,000 tennis tournament opens in Minsk

Players representing more than 20 countries are taking part in a $15,000 ITF Futures tennis tournament that opened in Minsk on August 9.

Velcom Cup 2010 features players from Belarus and other CIS countries, as well as from the Czech Republic, Italy, Spain and Sweden.

"Our tournament - the first stage of professional tennis - has already become traditional," Syarhey Dubrow, the tournament's supervisor, told BelaPAN. "The players can test themselves and earn their first points here."

The tournament will feature all of Belarus' top players but Max Mirnyi and Uladzimir Ihnatsik.
