International rhythmic gymnastics tournament held in Minsk

A two-day international rhythmic gymnastics tournament kicked off at the Palace of Sports in Minsk on Friday, BelaPAN reports.

Around 70 women representing eight countries participate in the event featuring Maryna Lobach, who won the gold medal at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, as the chief judge.

The tournament had been organized by the Dynama Belarusian Sports and Physical Culture Society.

Yury Barodzich, chairman of the Society’ central board, expressed hope that the tournament would give “a good opportunity to participants to improve their sports skills ahead of the first Youth Olympic Games in Singapore and the forthcoming world championship in Moscow.”

Ms. Lobach said that rhythmic gymnastics was a very plastic, artistic and graceful sport. “I would like to wish our gymnasts good luck, and also wish them to remain always a spring of beauty in the sports arena,” she add
