Authorities to sell state-owned housing without Lukashenka's consent

Alyaksandr Lukashenka's Edict No. 388, which allows governmental agencies to sell state-owned housing, will take effect in late November, Edmund Hryshkevich, a departmental head at the housing ministry, told reporters in Minsk on August 2, as quoted by BelaPAN.

State-owned housing may currently be sold to individuals only with Mr. Lukashenka's consent, Mr. Hryshkevich said.

The edict will entitle governmental agencies to sell state-owned residential premises, including those built with state enterprises' funds, without receiving the Belarusian leader's consent, according to the official.

The rule will make it possible to promptly deal with sales of residential premises to individuals who are in need of better housing conditions," he said.

As many as 483,800 apartments with a total floorspace of 25 million square meters were state-owned as of this past May.
