United Civic Party’s leaders discuss in Moscow coming conference on Belarusian-Russian relations

Yaraslaw Ramanchuk, the United Civic Party (UCP)’s presidential hopeful, has visited Moscow to discuss preparations for a political conference expected to be held in the Russian capital city on August 30.

The UCP deputy chairman traveled to Moscow earlier this week with UCP Chairman Anatol Lyabedzka and a member of the opposition party’s Political Council, Alyaksandr Dabravolski.

The conference will focus on Belarusian-Russian relations; political and economic experts representing the two countries will take part in it, Mr. Ramanchuk commented to BelaPAN.

“A similar conference took place in Belarus a year ago, now it will be held in Moscow,” he said. “All aspects of bilateral relations will be discussed there.”

The UCP leaders met with Finance Minister Aleksei Kudrin and political veteran Anatoly Chubais, known for his key role in Russia’s privatization reform, on the sidelines of festivities celebrating the 60th birthday of Leonid Gozman, co-chairman of the Right Cause liberal political party.

“The situation in Belarus was not in the focus, but the politicians noted a changing attitude toward Belarus in Russia,” Mr. Ramanchuk said. “They asked us what alternatives we could offer to Minsk’s policies.”
