Folk-rock band Troitsa performs for first time at Slavyanski Bazar in Vitsyebsk

Veteran folk-rock band Troitsa has performed for the first time at an international art festival, Slavyanski Bazar in Vitsyebsk, which kicked off in the northern Belarusian city at the end of last week, BelaPAN reports.

The band played at more than 80 European festivals, earning significant recognition in Germany, the Netherlands, Hungary, Portugal, Estonia and Serbia.

The Vitsyebsk concert, which lasted almost two hours, was very warm and lively. The rockers were encored three times.

“We had to perform at 80 festivals across the world, from Malaysia to Portugal, to eventually play such a concert in our homeland,” Troitsa frontman Ivan Kirchuk confided to the audience. The band played a selection of new songs. “We want to release a new CD, but we don’t yet know where we will do it,” Mr. Kirchyk said.

Between songs, the frontman talked to the audience, telling a story about a Belarusian medieval marriage during which he said around 400 songs were sung. “This is why, perhaps, our ancestors lived long lives and never got divorced,” he suggested.
