IMF to assess this fall need for new cooperation program with Belarus

The International Monetary Fund will assess later this year whether a new cooperation program with Belarus is needed, IMF expert Chris Jarvis told reporters in Minsk on Tuesday, BelaPAN said.

The Fund’s mission led by Mr. Jarvis arrived in the Belarusian capital city on May 12 to discuss the country’s social and economic development, monetary and tax policies.

“We expected to return here in the early fall for more discussions,” he said.

The new mission will make an assessment of the country’s economic situation and study whether another cooperation program is needed, according to the expert.

If the government and the National Bank display an interest in the program providing for well-considered economic policy measures, the Fund will be ready to provide such support, he said.
