Belarusian parliament will continue dialogue about possibility of restoring its Special Guest status in PACE, lawmaker says
The Belarusian parliament will continue its dialogue with the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) about the possibility of restoring its Special Guest status in the Assembly, lawmaker Nina Mazay told reporters in Minsk on Tuesday, as quoted by BelaPAN.
The dialogue will continue despite a recent resolution that provides for suspending PACE's activities involving high-level contact with the Belarusian parliament and/or the governmental authorities, said Ms. Mazay, chairperson of the International Affairs Committee in the Council of the Republic (Belarus’ upper parliamentary house).
In the April 29 resolution, PACE says nothing about stopping its dialogue with Belarus and actually expresses intention to continue it, although at a different level, said Ms. Mazay, a former deputy foreign minister. .
