Russian government`s press office denies reports linking Lukashenka`s Venezuela trip to Putin`s visit

The Russian government`s press office said that Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin had not been expected to meet with Alyaksandr Lukashenka during his one-day visit to Belarus on March 16.

In an interview with Russia`s news agency RIA Novosti, the press office dismissed as "baseless speculation" media reports that Mr. Lukashenka had traveled to Venezuela to avoid meeting with the Russian prime minister.

Mr. Putin was scheduled to arrive in Belarus on Tuesday to attend a session of the Belarusian-Russian Union State`s Council of Ministers.

"There were no plans for a meeting with Alyaksandr Lukashenka during the visit to Belarus as the session of the Council of Ministers takes place in Brest, not in Minsk," the press office said.  //BelaPAN
