Representative criticizes MEPs’ proposal regarding composition of Belarusian delegation to EURONEST PA
Syarhey Maskevich, head of the international affairs committee in the House of Representatives, has criticized as unconstructive the proposal that Belarus’ delegation to the EU-Neighborhood East Parliamentary Assembly (EURONEST PA) should include only political opposition and civil society activists.
The proposal is not in the spirit of “optimum and constructive cooperation between Belarus and the European Union,” Mr. Maskevich told BelaPAN on Thursday.
On March 10, members of the European Parliament who are to represent the EP in the EURONEST PA voted to approve the proposal that the Belarusian delegation should include political opposition and civil society activists, and gave the list to the presidents of the EP’s political groups.
The matter was discussed with EP President Jerzy Buzek the following day, with the meeting yielding an agreement to postpone a decision on the composition of Belarus’ delegation until the beginning of April.
