New head of European Commission’s Delegation to Ukraine and Belarus accredited in Kyiv

Jose Manuel Pinto Teixeira, new head of the European Commission’s Delegation to Ukraine and Belarus, presented his credentials to Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko in Kyiv on October 16.

Mr. Yushchenko said that relations with the EU were a foreign-policy priority for Kyiv and noted that “huge progress” had been made in ties between Ukraine and the bloc in the last few years.

When reached by BelaPAN, the European Commission’s office in Kyiv confirmed that the Commission had applied to the Belarusian authorities for an agrément to the accreditation of Mr. Pinto Teixeira in Belarus but received no reply so far.

Born in 1952, Mr. Pinto Teixeira graduated from Portugal’s Naval Academy, as well as studied at Lisbon Technical University, schools in Norway and London. He started his European Commission career in 1988.
