Lukashenka: Belarus rejects force as tool of foreign policy
Belarus rejects force as a tool of foreign policy, strictly abides by international agreements and takes an active part in the process of strengthening international security, said Alyaksandr Lukashenka while meeting Tuesday with new graduates of the General Staff and Command Staff Departments of the Military Academy of Belarus and Russia’s military academies.
The historic experience of the Belarusian people and the severe realities of world politics require constant attention to national security, the Belarusian leader said, according to government news sources.
“The modern world is not becoming safer and we are all witnesses to a period of growing geopolitical, economic, environmental and demographic problems. And all this concerns Belarus, one way or another,” Mr. Lukashenka was quoted as saying.
“NATO’s eastward expansion, the deployment of elements of the American strategic missile defense system in close vicinity to our border and the depreciation of the international legal basis for arms control seriously aggravate the military and political situation,” the head of state noted.
He pointed out that the most important short-term task of the Belarusian Armed Forces is to maintain a high level of combat readiness and prevent a potential military danger from growing into a military threat.
